Sam, the World's Ugliest Dog Dies

Sam, winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog Competition for three year’s running has died at the age of 14. Sam had recently become a media darling appearing all over the news, making TV appearances and meeting celebrities like Donald Trump. He was euthanized on Friday after years of dealing with medical problems including a weak heart.

The hairless Chinese Crested became famous for the small tuft of hair on his head, his gnarled claws and crooked teeth. Susie Lockheed orginally adopted Sam on a temporary basis, but his lack of cuteness made him tough to adopt, and he became part of her family. Susie showered the dog with love and attention, even though his medical conditions meant he was often in an unsociable mood.

Susie Lockheed runs Sam & Susie’s Life, a blog that followed Sam’s rise to fame and many readers are sending their condolences there.

Sam showed everyone that an ugly dog deserved just as much of the spotlight and love that we usually reserve for the cuties.

We originally covered Sam’s story here which lead to an investigation into other Ugliest Dog winners.
