Just in time for the pooch (or pooch lover) in your life we present our Top 10 list of great gifts.
10. Music Pets Love: The Holiday Edition
I have to admit, I thought the whole music for dogs thing was probably a crock. But reading through all the positive reviews of the While You Are Gone series, I’ve been converted. The series features soothing music mixed with nature sounds designed to keep your pup relaxed while you are out. You can also download individual songs from Amazon.com to try it out.
While You Are Gone: The Holiday Edition ($13.98)
9. Acqua Bol Travel Water Bowl
The Acqua Bol is a credit card sized folding water bowl available in three stylish colors. It’s tiny size means you can stuff it in your purse, glove compartment or even wallet and it’s re-usable hundreds of times. Acqua Bols are available in three colors and include a two-year warranty.
Acqua Bol ($5.99)
8. Custom Dog ID Tag
Let your dog express their individuality with one of these funky ID tags from shefeltpink’s etsy shop. Send in a picture of your pooch, choose your colors and font, and shefeltpink will design a personalized tag as original as your dog. The reverse of the tag includes all the important details should your pup get lost. If you’ve never shopped at etsy.com before, take a look, it’s like an eBay for crafters and designers.
Custom ID Tag ($10.00)
7. Make Your Own Holiday Biscuits
Let’s face it, your dog would be excited to receive a couple of milkbones for Christmas, but why not bake them a special treat. This holiday recipe for red and green holiday biscuits is made with spinach and parmesan is sure to delight your four legged friends. They would also make great, inexpensive gifts for friends and family with pooches. (pic courtesy of flickr)

6. Humunga Tongue
This is a hilarious fetch toy that is sure to entertain. The Humunga Tongue is shaped like a huge tongue with a ball on the end. Barrells of laughter ensue.
Humunga Tongue ($7 to $9)
5. Bowser Beer Beefy Brown Ale
Enjoy a beer with your best friend. Bowser Beer is a non-alcoholic beer for dogs made from real beef broth, malt barley and glucosamine. From the product description: “Is your dog drinking responsibly? No joke…real beer is not good for dogs. Bowser Beer™ is a fun; healthy; non-alcoholic beer for dogs. It can be served straight out of the bottle; or as a topping on dry food.”
Bowser Beer Beefy Brown Ale ($19.99)
4. Official Pet Jerseys
Dress your pup like an all-star with an officially licensed jersey. Each jersey is just like the original human version, although you can’t personalize the numbers or name. You can choose from almost any team in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL or the NCAA.
Licensed Sports Jerseys for Dogs ($30 to $40)
3. Hyper Products Doggie Driver
Practice your golf swing while playing with your dog. The Doggie Driver works just like a regular driver except it holds a tennis ball in the face of the club. The best part is, you can use the driver to pick up the ball, so there’s no bending over.
Doggie Driver ($26.99)
2. Nina Ottosson’s Puzzle Toys for Dogs
Nina Ottosson designs amazing puzzles for dogs that keep them entertained while exercising their brains. These activity toys let your dog work with problem solving in different ways by finding hidden dog snacks, for example lifting or pushing blocks, pushing pieces, turning discs, or putting blocks inside something.
Educational Toys for Dogs ($40 to $70)
1. Woofy-Pop Popcorn for Dogs
Woofy-Pop is microwaveable popcorn for dogs, but fit for human consumption. I can attest to the fact it tastes great. We had some bags sitting around and a friend popped one in the microwave not knowing it was for the dogs. He ate half the bag before we told him, and he kept on eating after he knew. Popcorn is actually a healthy and safe treat for dogs. Woof-Pop is available in 4 flavors; chicken, bacon, filet mignon and cheddar.
Woofy-Pop Variety Pack ($6.36)
There you have it folks. I think there’s something in there for every dog. If you’ve come across any other cool dog gifts or toys, please feel free to drop us a comment.

I’m happy to announce the launch of a new site: Costume Cats! It’s the sister site to CostumeDogs.com, and as you have probably figured out, features cats dressed up in costumes. Thanks to the proliferation of lolcats, hilariously cute cat pictures are plentiful. (link to Zelda Kitty)

CatPrin, the cat tailor from Japan is a little hard to figure out (without an understanding of Japanese that is). I think they are selling kits to sew your own cat costumes.
They’ve had an english page for awhile now, the pictures are all over the net. I happened by one of their Japanese pages today, and to my delight, there where tons more crazy cat costumes. Some favorites below:

This dog bowl’s simple design is really ingenious. The Brake-Fast dog food bowl has three “poles” that slow down a dog’s eating. From the Brake-Fast site:
Helps reduce the risk of Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV or ‘Bloat’)
Slower eating makes an animal feel more full and reduces instances of ‘re-eating’
Veterinarian tested and recommended
Works with kibble or canned food
Elegant, no-tip shape
Durable, dishwasher plastic”
The Brake-Fast Dog Food Bowl
is available from Amazon.com
for $13.49.

I should start by saying I don’t really think this is a useless pet product, in fact, I think it’s ingenious and rather hilarious. The useless part is that it costs $19.99 and that in this day and age you have to wait for them to deliver it by mail.
One of the skills that cats possess is the ability to quickly identify things they shouldn’t touch and immediately start meddling with it. Computer keyboards are no exception to this rule.

Here is the first in what I hope becomes a series of reports on idiotic dog and cat products. Our inaugral feature is the Pet Master, an electronic personal organizer for dogs.
Is your dog tired of losing important phone numbers or forgetting appointments? Throw him/her a bone and pick up this waste of hard earned money. The Pet Master has an alarm to remind fido of his schedule, stores favorite phone numbers, and is preloaded with the phone numbers of vets and pet friendly hotels (arguably useful).
The Pet Master is regularly $29.95, but it you can pick one up at the special Holiday Price of $25.45 on their website (I’m not sure what holiday that is). Fear not cat owners, it’s advanced software can also handle a cat’s hectic lifestyle.

Thierry Poncelet paints dogs and cats in classic human poses. Poncelet’s paintings are beautiful homages to 18th and 19th century aristocratic potraits. Simple and comical on the surface, the paintings are actually detailed masterpieces. No dogs playing poker here.

Due to popular request, or more accurately a single request to this post, I’ve searched high and low on the Information Superhighway to find dogs that look like Chewbacca. There are loads of dogs named Chewbacca, but few of them actually look like Chewbacca.
In the spirit of friendly competition, you can vote for your favorite Chewbacca Dog using the poll over there on the right sidebar –>
I must say that Chewie was, and is, my favorite Star Wars character. Dogs obviously have a natural advantage in the looking-like-Chewbacca department, but I was surprised by the lack of dog costumes.
Contestant Number 1
Our first contestant is a Yorkie named Buddy (link)

Contestant Number 2
Chewbacca the Chihuahua (link)

Contestant Number 3
Chewbacca the Yorkskire Terrier (link)

Contestant Number 4
Annie, makes up for her lack of natural Chewbaccaness (link)

May the force be with these dogs.
